Re: motorcycle crashes on Ortega Highway
Another crash just occurred, radio procedure was a bit different. A US Forest Service fire truck coming up Ortega Highway came across a motorcycle accident near the Lookout restaurant. They reported the incident on USFS Cleveland National Forest channel "Admin Net" on 168.15 MHz, CTCSS 103...

motorcycle crashes on Ortega Highway
There were two motorcycle crashes within half an hour of each other today on Highway 74 (Ortega Highway). It must be the holiday weekend. As far as monitoring these kinds of events, the sequence typically is what happened today. (1) Dispatch on CDF RRU-1 West Dispatch, 151.385 MHz, CTCSS tone 110.9 ...

Re: San Diego County fires
I think there may be some confusion on the radio channels by responding fire units. I just heard several transmissions where a unit IDing as "3136 Charlie" was trying to contact "Cleveland" (call sign for Cleveland National Forest) on 151.175 MHz, which is normally CDF RRU 2.

Re: San Diego County fires
I got another hit. Orange County VHF Access (countywide mutual aid) on 151.085 MHz, CTCSS 136.5 Hz (tone 4). They were talking about road closures in northern San Diego County due to fires.

San Diego County fires
Anyone hearing anything from the San Diego County fires? I heard air tankers on a US Forest Service repeater at 169.875 MHz. They were using CTCSS of 123.0 Hz (tone 2).

Cal Fire (CDF) frequency guide
Occasionally, official frequency guides pop up on the Internet. For example, see the links in my post at http://www.scanriverside.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=719 I found the official California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) guide online at http://www.sonomachiefs.org/home/...

Re: Cleveland National Forest frequencies
I found a couple of mutual aid agreements between Cleveland National Forest, Corona FD, and Orange County Fire Authority. In a mutual aid situation, CNF could disable CTCSS tones. In addition to "Forest Net" (168.75 MHz repeater output) and "Admin Net" (168.15 MHz repeater output...

Cleveland National Forest frequencies
I live up in the Cleveland National Forest, in El Cariso Village. Here are the US Forest Service channels I have in my scanner. They use CTCSS tones to reduce interference and control the repeaters. The CTCSS tones are usually the ones listed below, but they change them occasionally as needed. Radio...

Interoperability frequency guides
Since the demise of unencrypted RSO radio traffic due to the new P25 system, people have been asking what to program in their scanners. There are three key government documents that you should look at. These contain frequencies, CTCSS tones, operating characteristics, etc. for interoperability betwe...
