Re: Another Failure

Mike, thanks for the explanation of patches. You can see I'm no radio geek. I'm a little late here on this but, anyway, thank zz0468 not me for that patch explanation! I answered the wrong question originally - I was thinking of situations wherein a group of users is leaving a system coverage area ...

Re: Another Failure

Well you can put CLEMARS and FIREMARS patches on trunked radio, can't you? Defeats the purpose if you're out of range of the network, though. In this case, that is the point of switching to simplex for local units off-network. Patches to the trunked system wouldn't be any better than staying on the...

Re: 417.8 Repeating or Simulcasting RFD CMD 1

DIINGDANGIT! I think I figured it out...maybe... Try this - We have the first LO set at 798.6MHz and the second at 359.4MHz; now let's assume that the second IF filter and isolation just ain't that good and the 798.6MHz first LO gets through to the second mixer and tangles with the second LO at 359....

Re: 417.8 Repeating or Simulcasting RFD CMD 1

Excellent discussion! I like to see real valid technical discussions in a hobbyist radio forum and firmly believe that radio hobbyists really need to know and understand the basics of the internal workings of their equipment as well as basic RF behavior in the wild to get the most out of their hobby...

Re: 46.24 user

I've been monitoring the freqs that "800" listed above. I've confirmed that 46.24 is in fact being used by Riverside City Electric Utility with a PL of 151.4. From what I can hear, it appears to be mobile use only but is repeated on the main 48.02 freq. @ "800": The 32.015 freq ...

Re: 460.4625 Riverside Police

The Uniden scanners that trunktrack, both base units and portables, let you adjust the spacing from 12.5KHz to any other value such as 6.25KHz. I know that some channels like to bleed when they're off by as little as .05MHz which can be a pain. I neve knew you could try the PL/DPL code decoding to p...

Re: RCPD 6

I don't live in or even close to Riverside and have no direct info to offer concerning this but would like to throw out some general info regarding channel plans and their respective agencies and users. Frequency versus channel can vary a lot over time and even between separate divisions/departments...

Re: SOFTWARE-PRO-94

I am not absolutely sure but I THINK that FreeScan will not work for programming a BC245 so will likely not work for the Radio Shack Pro-94 either. FreeScan details here: http://www.sixspotsoftware.com/products/freescan. Based on what I read in the RR wiki concerning the Pro-94, only the 94B model (...

Re: Encryption is NOT for Everyone

Be sure and read all of the comments following the article. As one of the commentators mentioned, the author had to distill a fairly complex subject down to generally simple terms; some compromises tend to creep in in such cases. The bandwidth issue is odd, I feel, as does another of the comment pos...

Re: traffic on 164.1000 - Corona area

It was simplex. I could only hear one side of the conversation. It must have been a fire department because they usually use simplex. LOTS of services use simplex; the choice to use repeaters or simplex is more situational or based on resources rather than specific to a service. If the traffic ment...
