Re: Info heard on RSO just now...

Good question. I don't know why the county just didn't add more repeaters and frequencies. I think one reason is because of Nextel. Nextel had some major bleed-over issues in the 800mhz spectrum, so (I think) many government agencies are moving to 700mhz. That is what I heard we are suppose to be g...

Re: Info heard on RSO just now...

NO!!! If the existing system was directly replaced with Motorola equipment, in an identical system, the coverage would not change. Radio waves don't know what brand of transmitter generated them, and the laws of physics are the same for EDACS and Motorola. A few things would change, though - 1. Wide...

Re: Info heard on RSO just now...

It WAS much worse than it is now. Most of the original problems stemmed from incompetent installation. The "stupid" conventional systems were put in place so that there would be at least SOMETHING to use while a real fix was found. It costs well over a million dollars and a couple of years...

Re: Info heard on RSO just now...

Crap? Why do you say that? EDACS is actually a very good system. The problem with Riverside County's system is simple - not enough sites to provide the coverage necessary, and not enough channels. The hardware is excellent, and probably more versatile than what Motorola was offering at the time. Riv...

Re: Info heard on RSO just now...

Actually, "South + West" doesn't mean they're able to use both systems. It means that they can access the West system talk groups in the South system. Sometimes it's necessary, but what happens is, when they do that, the South system is now carrying it's own talk groups as well as some Wes...

Re: Old RSO Info?

I've got some stuff that would knock your socks off, but it's kinda proprietary. I'd be happy to throw something together that could be shared, though. Give me a few days. It's getting busy over here.

Re: 909.8875 control channel..

The "chunk of spectrum" I'm referring to is 902-928 MHz. It's a shared band with Amateur (ham radio), unlicensed devices like cordless phones (Part 15 of FCC rules) and licensed vehicle location like Teletrac, which is a service similar in function to Lojack, for locating stolen cars and t...

Re: 909.8875 control channel..

That's on a chunk of spectrum that's shared between Amateur, Part 15, and Vehicle Location. It's probably either an image, or perhaps Pactel Teletrac.

Re: Info heard on RSO just now...

Don't make the assumption that the dispatchers have the foggiest idea of what their system looks like, or even how to use it. They usually don't, which is a major factor in the perceptions that the current system is completely inadequate.
