Re: Antenna Question...
Would you go with 10-feet RG-8 and lower on the roof or 20-feet RG-58 and higher on the roof? I'd go 20' with RG8 and lose the RG58 completely. But honestly, 10 feet of elevation isn't going to make a serious difference, and neither is 20 feet of RG58. It takes about a 3 db difference for an untrai...

Re: Riverside Community Hospital
You may or may not hear much from the hospital. At one time, they used a variety of things... 460 for the private security company that did that stuff, Nextel for hospital staff, county 800 for RSO in the jail ward... I could never keep track, but I do know there's a Nextel BDA in the building, and ...

Re: Old RSO Info?
Yeah, you got the Norco site correct. The I15 site... well, you could toss a bowling ball from the NB breakdown lane of the 15 and hit the site, but you'd have to know where to look.

I guess zz has been a tech for over 30-years I managed to work my way a bit further up the food chain than that, but yeah... I've been around the block a few times. What I posted before (IMHO) is still generally correct. I have also been around in the public-safety radio world for a while. I have f...

Re: Antenna Question...
You WERE getting more signal when the antenna was lower. You added about 4.3 DB more loss by extending the cable, probably more loss than you gained by raising the antenna. Advice? Use better cable. RG58 is no good for VHF and above for lengths longer than a few feet. Use RG8 at the barest minimum, ...

If you count the huge amount of planning, permitting, and property acquisition that has to take place first, it's already started.318 wrote:When is construction/build-out of the new system going to start... or has it?

Re: Antenna Question...
Grounding helps eliminate noise and will provide you with a better signal overall. No it won't. The antenna he bought has a built in counterpoise (ground plane) so grounding it will have no effect on signal levels. The grounding requirements are for safety only. The only time a ground will impact r...

Re: Old RSO Info?
Wow, check out the coverage map on that website. Although I understand that the information is old, it would be awsome if someone could reproduce a similar, updated map. Does anyone have a map showing the locations of the current RSO sites? Even off-list or via PM? How about it zz? ~Chad (318) Well...

Re: Info heard on RSO just now...
We live in some of the most "hilly" terrain in state. What did they expect? Riverside County is some of the most challenging terrain in the world for radio coverage. It's got desert, mountains, rolling hills, marine air flow with lots of moisture, heat. Everything that makes radio waves n...

Re: Info heard on RSO just now...
The deputies do know how to use the radio system. It is not complicated one bit. You turn it on and off. You can change repeaters when needed, but most of the time, the radio automatically changes repeaters for you (when it goes into CC or WA scan) when you go out of a coverage area. It is not the ...
