Lots of activity in the 33.00 range, just heard Venanago County, PA fire dispatch a medical aid, respiratory difficulty.

Heard Cattarugus County, NY dispatching the Cattaraugus ambulance today on 33.7.

Hi, Mike! This is exciting to me, reminds me of when I lived in L.A. and LAFD was on low band VHF. No one uses that anymore in CA that I have heard, so it is a good indicator when skip is in.

I can remember when low band skip was so good you couldn't make out one station from another, there were so many transmissions coming in at once.

I started my FD career as a volunteer in NJ in the 1960's. Most rural FD's were using low band then. When I moved to soCal in the 70's and the skip was in, I'd listen to 33.94 every night to see if I could hear their daily test (I usually could). It was quite a thrill one day to hear one of my friends responding to a fire back home, 2,500 miles away.

Skip conditions aren't what they used to be, but a lot of that is due to the fact that many of the low band users have transitioned to UHF trunking systems that are part of a regional dispatch.

Got a few hits on the 33MHz search today. The only one I could ID was 33.9 Guernsey County FD, OHIO
