RIVERSIDE COUNTY: Sheriff buying two AS350-B3 helicopters

This forum is used for topics that specifically relate to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. This area was mostly for stuff about the old EDACS system, but new topics about RSO are also welcome.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY: Sheriff buying two AS350-B3 helicopters

Post by brandon »

The helicopters will replace one that was destroyed when it crashed in August during training at Hemet-Ryan Airport. The other is replacing an older helicopter that lacks equipment for rescues and night flying.

I wonder how they will be identified on air. Probably still Star 9.

Radio callsigns at RSO have nothing to do with serial numbers, VIN numbers, or in this case, tail numbers.

I have been hearing one of them identifying as Star 97 since around Sept or so.

I hear them checking in with March Tower when they are in the area. Star 97 is a new one to me, last few months. Anyone know what the deal is with the one heli that sits on the trailer? I think it is the one they take around to air shows, etc. Doesn't seem to be flyable.
