What type/brand of scanner do you have? It's likely Phase 2, so you should consider going to the store and getting a BCD536HP.

That's a big negative, Ghost Rider...not buying a $500 scanner just to listen to CalTrans. Do you know how much Meister Brau and Popeye's I can get for $500?

Considering CalTrans does not own Phase 2 capable subscriber radios, I suspect it is Phase 1.

It programs in fine on my Phase 1 P25 capable scanner (PSR500); haven't heard any voice traffic yet but haven't listened to it much (out of my area).

Make sure you program it in as P25 Auto and not Motorola.

From what I can tell from Pro96com and UniTrunker it's a Phase 2 system.

The control channels is displaying system info in my Pro 96 when it is locked on in Motorola mode, would it do that if it was Phase II?

And for the BCD396XT, it is P-25 Standard (not Single Frequency or Motorola).

If it's P2 then that would explain the lack of any voice traffic for me! Too bad. Oh well. I only get a decent signal with my handheld when in certain locations but it is good and steady when in those locations.

To sp1989:

Again, you do NOT use Motorola mode - it is a true P25 system. On the 96, I am not sure what mode that is (it is "P25 Auto" on the PSR500) but neither your 96 nor my 500 will track a TDMA Phase II system (except for any Phase 1 talkgroups, if any) so even though you (and I) can decode the control channel and display information about it in P25 mode (and send the data out the PC/IF port to use with PRO96COM or Unitrunker) we cannot follow the TDMA P2 voice slots.

Voice decoding could be done with the newer Uniden x36 series radios and the GRE PSR800 and future Whistler variants of the PSR800, however, and via software such as DSD and DSD+.

There's no setting on the Pro 96 for P25, if it's a digital signal, the radio automatically changes to "digital" mode from FM when it detects it. It only does that on this system randomly, mostly it stays FM. If it's Phase II, I guess it's trying to work but it can't.
