REACH air ambulace expanding into the area, possibly Hemet

Post by ke6alv »

For those who may not know---I just learned about this the other day---we have a competitor to Mercy Air that is looking to expand in the SoCal area. They--and Mercy--are both bidding on possibly basing a helicopter out in Hemet...

The company is called REACH: http://www.reachairambulance.com

"REACH Air Medical Services Opens Eleventh Base
REACH opened its newest base in Thermal, California and will immediately begin providing emergency and critical care air transportation services to communities throughout Riverside County and surrounding areas. The base will offer residents and visitors life-saving 24/7 emergency and hospital-to-hospital critical care helicopter service. - July 17, 2009"

"REACH's El Centro base in Southern California's Imperial County operates a technically-advanced twin-engine Eurocopter EC 135, capable of cruising at a speed of 160 mph. Our base in Lancaster, California, provides interfacility transfers throughout the area with our Bell 407 aircraft. Our Thermal, California base, located at the Desert Resorts Regional Airport, provides services to communities throughout Riverside County and surrounding areas."

Hemet fire chief wants to host air ambulance at fire station

Fire Chief Matt Shobert proposed to the City Council this week that the city build a helipad behind Station 4 at Hemet-Ryan Airport and lease it and quarters for a the three-person crew that mans the emergency helicopter.

Shobert said he sees the arrangement as a way of helping with two problems, the need for an air ambulance that can reach the critically injured quicker than a ground ambulance and the need to augment the city’s revenue...

Shobert said two air ambulance companies have expressed an interest in such an arrangement.

He plans to report back to the council in a month with a recommendation on which way to go.

This may be slightly off topic, but LACO FD operates on 155.4 Mhz and does alot of airlift work in L.A. county, as does LASO Air 5 on 483.5357Mhz. I've heard both units respond to S&R in San Bernardino county.
