Mil Helicopters in SoCal

Post by John L »

I was eating lunch near March ARB on Friday and we watched 4 CH-53's come in and land from the south. Last night I heard on my scanner another group of Helo's coming to March. The pilot said that he was 15 mi east of the base and he was asking for clearance to land. The controller replied to him that he was flying to low to be picked up on radar and would need to check in when he was closer. As said before there is a lot of Reserve activity on the weekends. First time for Helo's that I can recall.Other scanner folks in So Cal are seeing Helo's everywhere this weekend and are trying to determine what is going on.My best guess is just training.March ARB Tower on 127.650
