Blythe airport was an Army air base years ago. It was never a Cal Fire air attack base. That is probably why the "air base" designation.

Gee that brings back memories! My parents used to drive to Phoenix every summer on vacation back in the early 50's. One of the highlights was passing by Blythe airport, as there were a bunch of P-38 Lightning fighters lined up there, baking in the sun. And don't forget the fruit inspection station!
