Cal Fire Blythe Station 45

Post by scnradio »

I was looking at the Riverside co Cal Fire dept web site. I see that station 45 is a air attack base. There are no planes or copter there. So why is it called a air attack base? I have heard fires out here but the copters come out of Az.

Blythe airport was an Army air base years ago. It was never a Cal Fire air attack base. That is probably why the "air base" designation.

Gee that brings back memories! My parents used to drive to Phoenix every summer on vacation back in the early 50's. One of the highlights was passing by Blythe airport, as there were a bunch of P-38 Lightning fighters lined up there, baking in the sun. And don't forget the fruit inspection station!
