I am captain of a neighborhood watch in Menifee. I am interested in monitoring police, fire only in the Menifee area. Do any of you have any recommendations on a handheld scanner that I can use to monitor these frequencies. Thanks again.

Welcome to the ScanRiverside Forum,

As you wait for a Menifee area user to answer. Here are some links to read over.

The latest Uniden hand held scanners models.

BCD396XT (P25 Digital) -
Will work good for Southern California. Since lots of law enforcement agencies are using P25 digital.

BC346XT (Analog only)
Will work great for Cal Fire channels, Riverside County Fire Department, CHP, etc...

Note: Looks like lots of law enforcement agencies in Riverside county will be going digital in a few years...

When it comes to Riverside County Fire, you will be able to listen to them on any scanner available.

When it comes to Riverside County Sheriff, that is another story. Currently, you can monitor RSO with a digital trunking scanner that will cost you $400-$500. Someone at Radioreference.com who is knowledgeable with the Riverside County radio system states RSO will be implementing a new radio system which no scanner is able to listen to it. Consider your purchase carefully.
