Just got my new scanner

Hi all , I used to have a scanner years ago and listened until it became obsolete. I finally broke down and bought a new one. I got a RadioShack Iscan Trunking Scanner. So far its been pretty good. I got it because I know nothing about programming and it seemed easy to set up. Right out of the box I was able to get Banning and Beaumont PD going. It does have some issues of concern and since I only have 30 days to return or exchange it, I thought I would seek the input 0f others to help me decide on keeping it. First issue , so far I have not found a way to input a single freq manually. I don't really think you can. In addition the delete process is sort of long and drawn out. If I want to delete a whole group of channels I haven't found a way to do it unless I delete one by one. (you import channels by block or groups for the most part) Also, although I have found many channels on the Highway patrol , including the ones on this site , I am yet to receive ANY Highway Patrol. In Addition I havn't had much luck getting local fire and paramedic dispatch. I do get some AMR but not in Banning or Beaumont. Mostly in Riverside. I know this is alot but your thoughts and advise on all these issues would be helpfull. Thanks Martin

To add stuff to the Pro107(iScan). You need to take the SD Card out and connect it to your computer card reader.
Then somewhere in the software. You can start adding other talkgroups/freqs you want in the scanner.

That's all I know.... Since I don't have a Pro107/iScan.

Programming and Monitoring Software
See the Object Oriented Scanner Software article for more information
* Note: The radio comes with included iScan software. The Object Oriented Scanner Software link is for reference only until third party software is available or more is known about the iScan included software.
* The iScan software will allow the user to update firmware, update the Radioreference iScan database, format and prepare an SD card, and manipulate objects and playlists. Operation is point and click and pull down menus. Input for manual programming of conventional and trunked systems is also available for both new and downloaded playlists from and to the radio via transfer to the SD card connected to the computer. SD access is not available via the supplied USB/serial cable. Firmware updates are done with the USB/Serial cable directly to the radio through the iScan software.

Thats helpfull. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately my old computer has no sd card port. Hmmm maybe I will be exchanging this scanner. Not sure yet. Is anyone located in Banning area able to receive fire and ambul dispatch ? If so can you tell me exact group-channels etc.? I have found many channels for county fire including the ones on this site and no luck ... Any help....advice?

The iScan is supposed to have the ENTIRE RadioReference database programmed into it already, I can't imagine that it's lacking for freqs if that's the case. maybe a good antenna would help, or trying different areas close to Banning instead of just Banning. I was able to pick up everything you mention on a Pro-83 with just the duck antenna when I was stationed at the Banning Courthouse and it came in loud and clear. Good luck, I thought it was a cool scanner when I first saw it, but I don't have one, at least not yet.
