"Those radios will allow us to talk to other agencies," Purvis said. "Whether it be the (Riverside County) Sheriff's Department, or a new radio system that's being installed in the Coachella Valley.
"Not only would we be able to communicate in Banning, but we would be able to communicate with those two entities."
The radios are capable of encryption, which would prevent non-law enforcement personnel from listening in. Purvis called them "cutting edge" technology.
"We're very proud we're going to be able to buy these radios, and we're ready for the future," he said.
