Does it matter what format your scanner is in or what format you program your talk groups in?

AFS or DECIMAL...

As in, does this effect the scanner when scanning???

Most sites have AFS and Decimal talk groups listed for RSO.

I have not noticed any difference programming AFS vs Dec on a scanner. I used Decimal since this is how the ID's show up in UniTrunker and they are easier for me to remember.
AFS format has a nice pattern though, for example: West system are usually 02-XXX, Southwest/Central 04-XXX, Desert 06-XXX, Blythe 08-XXX.

From what I noticed on my PRO 164. If it's set to decimal, it auto converts.

So, with that in mind, if i entered 06-021 in AFS and the scanner is set to decimal, the LCD would show 0785.

I don't know if that's allowed on the newer scanners like the Uniden but I guess we'll see.
