RSO During 10 33

Exactly, what happens when a dispatcher or a patrol deputy calls a 10 33? Do the deputies not involved change to the appropriate station's special ops or something?

Say there was an incident on talkgroup 06-021. Wouldn't the deputies uninvolved go to 06-023, or 06-024 to keep the air clear?

No, they simply don't talk. Occasionally during very busy times, you'll hear the dispatcher say "On 1033, stby to copy a 273.5", but dispatch will rarely broadcast calls for service while on 1033 unless it is a priority one call. But generally deputies are not to run plates or say anything that is not critical to the call at hand.

So then, when do they use Channels 3/4? I know 2 is used for Car-to-Car talk.

Yup...until dispatch says "10-34" which gives the ok for normal traffic.

I would think that the deputies uninvolved go over to a special ops channel for the station.

The limitation is not available talk groups. It's available dispatchers. If there isn't an extra dispatcher on duty at a console to talk to them, then they keep quiet until they go 10-34. They can go to a car to car channel to talk to other deputies, and they can run their plates and stuff on the mdt.

So may I ask what would happen if there WAS an extra dispatcher available during a 10-33?

Mostly, they're going to just stay put on their main channel where they can be found when the 10-33 is cleared. If there's an additional dispatcher available, they may switch to a different channel for a specific purpose, then switch back. What dispatch isn't going to want is all their deputies scattered on different channels where they can't find them.

I must say that that makes perfect sense.
