Just heard one side of a conversation on 164.1000. The individual said he had poor cell coverage, but did say something to the effect that he was on cell phone check with Andrews.
I have this as a NEST (Nuclear Emergency Search Team) freq, but that is old info. Comms were in analog and I couldn't get a tone, since the conversation was short. He also mentioned switchbacks. sounds like comm techs heading up to a repeater site.

Plugged it in after I read this, at 1357 hrs I heard a brief bit of conversation, a male talking to someone, sounded like techs or Ham-speak, it quickly faded out, as if it was in a moving vehicle of some type. Will keep monitoring it. Heard from downtown Riverside w/outdoor antenna.

I wonder if maybe it's a business frequency. I've never heard about it before.

I'm not hearing much, but they're using a PL of 110.9. Occasional and brief comms. Sometimes I hear one person, sometimes two.

It's in the federal government section of the VHF-Hi band so it wouldn't be a business. However, a contractor for a Federal agency might be able to use a fed frequency if authorized for special occasions.cvrules90 wrote:I wonder if maybe it's a business frequency. I've never heard about it before.

Could it be intermod or an image? Being in Corona puts you near Santiago Peak, and that could make your receiver susceptible to interference of various types. I have seen radios just go bananas in and around Corona due to overload.

It was on a dual-band amateur mobile. I don't see a whole lot of intermod (at least anything intelligible)in the VHF fed band with this radio, believe it or not. That's why it struck me as out of the ordinary.....

On a sort of related note, I remember listening to SS freqs when some big wig was visiting L.A. back in the early 80's, and a freq that never had traffic was suddenly alive, like it was next door. I was hearing comms from George AFB (I think), I remember hearing that a F-4 lost a drop tank on take off, and started a large fire. The response was quite extensive and dramatic. I always wondered if it was a fake, broadcast to divert attention from something else that was happening.
