Tk 3207

Post by tk353 »

Question time. I bought some of these radios new and programmed them. They both sound muffled - is there a quick fix to this?

Are these VHF and if so, did you program them for narrowband (12.5 khz bandwidth)?

They are UHFand from China. I'll have to check on the narrow banding issue thank you.

The wide / narrowband issue depends on what you are listening to. If you listen to a signal that has deviation at 4-5 khz on a radio set to "narrow" it is going to sound horrible, but you can listen to a NARROW (2.5 khz deviated) signal on a radio set to WIDE and won't notice much difference than if the radio was set ot "narrow" other than adjacent channel bleedover.

What exactly are you listening to on these radios? The only signals out there in UHF that can legally be "wide" would be HAM & GMRS. All the public safety and commercial analog FM transmissions should be "narrow" running 12.5 khz spaced channels with 2.5 khz of deviation.

Have you compared the audio on those radios to another radio you know works fine? Is it possible the transmitted audio just sounds bad? What frequency are you listening to?

Our company uses the TK 360-g1 on UHF. Saw these radios really cheap. We bought a couple to play with but the audio is really muffled. Oh well

Have you confirmed your company radios are running 2.5 khz deviation narrowband and that the "cheap" radios are properly programmed on frequency?

Set the "new" radios to "wide" on the receiver and see what happens.

It's the radios thanks. Been programming for some time with all kinds of Kenwoods. These are the only ones that are horrible even on simplex.
