Nighttime tends to have better reception because of decreased disturbances. You may also want to use an outdoor antenna to extend coverage. Where are you located?

I never listened to Corona, even when it was easy in Riverside. Don't know why, it just never appealed to me. I'm in Valle Vista now, haven't put up an outdoor antenna yet, just a mag mount stuck to the patio roof.

Another good thing would be a telescopic antenna on your scanner. Those work wonders!

Actually I have Diamond gain antennas on a couple of my HH scanners, works great for VHF high and UHF. I have one dedicated HH for 800 with a gain antenna for that band as well.
